We believe the key to supernormal returns in the market is investing in companies that have industry/company specific tailwinds that can help them fundamentally outperform the market and are available at reasonable valuations providing high downside protection. We generally look for names which have not performed in recent periods, are not in the limelight or hated by the markets. We do deep research in such companies, trying to understand their history, digging into the concerns/risks feared by the market as well as gauging their future potential. Our research involves scouring through company filings, connecting with the management and other stakeholders to gather insights.
These culminate into an opportunistic investment thesis where the downside risks have largely been priced in.
